Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Budgetpeer is a manual budget tracker. You enter your own numbers - the app never connects to your bank. Your privacy is fundamental to how it is built. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What We Collect

We collect the minimum data needed to run the service.

  • Account information. Your email address, and a display name if your sign-in provider supplies one. You can sign in with an email address, with Apple, or with Google. When you sign in with Apple you may choose to hide your email, in which case we receive Apple's private relay address instead of your real one.

  • Budget data. The transactions, categories, accounts, budgets, spending limits, BNPL plans, recurring templates and tracking-account check-ins that you enter yourself, including any notes and merchant names you type. This data is stored in your account so it can sync between your devices.

  • Profile photo. If you set a profile picture, the image is stored in a private storage bucket tied to your account. This happens only if you choose a photo.

  • Support messages. If you send feedback from inside the app, we receive your message, the type you selected (feedback, bug or feature), your app version, your operating system version, and your device's region setting. The region setting is a preference on your device, not your location - the app never asks for or receives location data.

  • Plan information. Whether your account is on the free or paid plan.

  • Anonymous app usage. Unless you turn it off, the app records how it is used: which screens you open and which features you use, such as adding a transaction or opening the upgrade screen. It also records your app version, your device type and operating system, and whether you are on the free or paid plan. These records carry a random identifier created on your device. It is not linked to your account, your email or your name, and we cannot tell who you are from it. Your IP address is discarded and is not used to work out where you are.

  • Anonymous screen recordings (iPhone and iPad only). Unless you turn it off, the app takes occasional pictures of its own screens while you use it, along with where you tap. This helps us see where the app is confusing and find bugs.

    • Your data is hidden on your device before any picture leaves it. Your amounts, account, category, budget and merchant names, notes, dates, charts, profile photo and anything you type are blacked out.

    • Recording pauses while a menu or message that shows your data is open.

    • The Mac app never records the screen.

    • The Apple Watch app sends no usage data at all.

What We Do Not Collect

  • Bank account credentials or logins of any kind

  • Credit card or payment card numbers

  • Location data. The app requests no location permission

  • Social Security numbers or government IDs

  • Your contacts, your photo library, or other device data. A profile picture is uploaded only if you pick one

  • Data from third-party financial services such as Plaid or Yodlee

  • Your amounts, names, notes or anything else you enter, in the anonymous usage records or screen recordings

No advertising, no tracking.

  • The app contains no advertising SDK and no crash reporting service, and does not use your device's advertising identifier.

  • We do not track you across apps or websites, and the app never asks for permission to do so, because it has nothing to ask for.

Turning Off Usage Data and Recordings

Go to Settings → Privacy and turn off Help Improve Budgetpeer.

  • Collection stops on that device straight away, and nothing more is sent from it.

  • The setting is per device, so turn it off on each device you use. The Apple Watch app sends no usage data, so it has no setting.

How We Use Your Data

Only to provide and improve Budgetpeer:

  • Store and display your budget data, and sync it between your devices

  • Calculate BNPL payment schedules from what you enter

  • Generate spending insights and dashboard charts

  • Send reminders and alerts you have turned on. These are generated on your device

  • Confirm whether your account is on the free or paid plan

  • Answer your support messages

  • Send essential service email, such as a password reset

  • Understand which features are used, find bugs, and see where the app gets in your way, using the anonymous usage records and screen recordings

What We Never Do

  • Sell your data to anyone

  • Share your financial data with third parties

  • Show you advertisements

  • Use your data to train AI models

  • Track you across other apps or websites

  • Monetise your information in any way beyond the product itself

Payments

Purchases are made through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment and is the merchant of record. We never see or store your payment details - we receive only whether your account is entitled to the paid features.

Refunds, cancellations and subscription management are handled by Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com or your Apple ID settings.

Third-Party Services

Supabase hosts your account and your synced data. Supabase does not access or use your budget data. Their privacy policy is at supabase.com/privacy.

PostHog receives the anonymous usage records and screen recordings described above. It stores them in the United States. They are not linked to your account, and PostHog does not receive your budget data. Their privacy policy is at posthog.com/privacy.

Apple provides In-App Purchase and Sign in with Apple.

Google provides Sign in with Google, if you choose that option. Google receives only what is needed to authenticate you.

No other third-party service receives your data.

Your Rights

Access. Request a copy of your data at any time by emailing hello@budgetpeer.com.

Export. Export your transaction data as a CSV file from inside the app.

Delete. Delete your account and all associated data from Settings. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

Correction. Edit any of your data directly in the app at any time.

Opt out. Turn off anonymous usage data and screen recordings at any time in Settings → Privacy.

Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, the associated data is permanently removed. We do not retain backups of individual user data after account deletion.

Anonymous screen recordings are deleted automatically after 30 days. Anonymous usage records are kept for up to 7 years to show how the app is used over time. Because they are not linked to your account, they cannot be tied back to you or removed with it.

Children's Privacy

Budgetpeer is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

International Users

Your data may be processed and stored in the United States. If you are in the European Union or another region with data protection laws, please be aware of this transfer. By using Budgetpeer you consent to it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes we will notify you by email or with a notice in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
